The Middle East conflict has now been going on for a whole century. The region has not had a stable political order or solution since the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, and the conflicts between the various parties involved keep flaring up again and again. To provide a better understanding of the complex situation in the Middle East, this book sketches the basic outlines of the conflict and precisely identifies the protagonists and the goals and motives of those involved. The effects of the Arab Spring and approaches to a solution such as the "single-state solution" or "two-state solution" are also discussed. For those looking for concise and well-founded basic information about the causes, history and current political concepts and patterns in the Middle East conflict, this book is indispensable.

What would it be like to live without fear? Join renowned philosopher Dallas Willard as he shares the biblically-backed secret to living with true contentment, peace, and security.

In Life Without Lack, Dallas Willard revolutionizes our understanding of Psalm 23 by taking this comfortably familiar passage and revealing its extraordinary promises: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want...Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil."

Written with Willard's characteristic gentle wisdom, Life Without Lack helps you experience:

God's comforting presence

God's abundant generosity

Peace and freedom from worry

Based on a series of talks by the late author and edited by his friend Larry Burtoft and by his daughter, Rebecca Willard Heatley, Life Without Lack will forever change the way you experience the most well-known passage in all of Scripture.

Praise for Life Without Lack:

"Dallas Willard helps us to understand that the Twenty-Third Psalm is not meant as a nice sentiment or for kitschy decor, it is for the very thick of our lives, the very moment of crisis. Imagine what our personal lives, families, communities, and politics would look like if we rejected the frantic striving of our day, and instead embraced the life without lack offered to us in Jesus Christ. No one has helped me to imagine and enter into that life more than Dallas Willard.
A leading neuroscientist explores with authority, with imagination, and with unparalleled mastery how the brain constructs the mind and how the brain makes that mind conscious.

Antonio Damasio has spent the past thirty years researching and and revealing how the brain works. Here, in his most ambitious and stunning work yet, he rejects the long-standing idea that consciousness is somehow separate from the body, and presents compelling new scientific evidence that posits an evolutionary perspective. His view entails a radical change in the way the history of the conscious mind is viewed and told, suggesting that the brain’s development of a human self is a challenge to nature’s indifference. This development helps to open the way for the appearance of culture, perhaps one of our most defining characteristics as thinking and self-aware beings.

Translated from the popular French edition, the goal of the book is to provide a self-contained introduction to mean topological dimension, an invariant of dynamical systems introduced in 1999 by Misha Gromov. The book examines how this invariant was successfully used by Elon Lindenstrauss and Benjamin Weiss to answer a long-standing open question about embeddings of minimal dynamical systems into shifts.

A large number of revisions and additions have been made to the original text. Chapter 5 contains an entirely new section devoted to the Sorgenfrey line. Two chapters have also been added: Chapter 9 on amenable groups and Chapter 10 on mean topological dimension for continuous actions of countable amenable groups. These new chapters contain material that have never before appeared in textbook form. The chapter on amenable groups is based on F?lner’s characterization of amenability and may be read independently from the rest of the book.

Although the contents of this book lead directly to several active areas of current research in mathematics and mathematical physics, the prerequisites needed for reading it remain modest; essentially some familiarities with undergraduate point-set topology and, in order to access the final two chapters, some acquaintance with basic notions in group theory. Topological Dimension and Dynamical Systems is intended for graduate students, as well as researchers interested in topology and dynamical systems. Some of the topics treated in the book directly lead to research areas that remain to be explored.

There are six stages of spiritual growth, the Creator wants every Christian believer to experience. If you are desirous of being the best you can be, then this book is for you. Are you keen on living the best Christian experience? This book signposts each stage of progression from the conversion experience to the ultimate stage of parenthood (and grand parenthood). The eldership in your assembly wants you to grow in grace and knowledge, and to become a spiritual leader in your own right. This book is a must-read, if you want to live above the rate of common Christianity.

This book aims to give you some ideas and principles to instill into your life so that you might live your Christian life above the rate of common Christianity. This book is divided into six parts: One: Sinner. Two: Sainthood. Three: Surrender. Four: Servanthood. Five: Soul winner. Six: Spiritual Parenthood. Everyone born into this world is supposed to progress along this six-step pathway. This is the way of God. This is the way to God. This is the way to Paradise. If you have not begun this journey, then start today. If you are stagnating on sainthood, then move on to surrender. If you are a soul-winner, then move on to spiritual parenthood...and so forth.

In the New Testament, we can read about what we are supposed to be doing here, in our Christian lives. The new believer needs these questions tackled: Why are we here? What are we supposed to be doing? Those questions become easier to answer when we know the six stages of living Above Common Christianity. Make sure you are progressing to gain the rewards in life. Make sure you are moving through these six stages to live Above Common Christianity.

The title of this book comes from David Brainerd's personal diary. David Brainerd was a Presbyterian missionary to the Native American Indians along the Delaware, New Jersey. He was born in the year, seventeen eighteen, and died in the year, seventeen forty-seven. During his years of ministry, he suffered many setbacks and hardships, which he recorded in his diary. In his later years, he suffered from Tuberculosis, which eventually he succumbed to. There, as he lay on his deathbed, about to depart, he urged his brother, to live above the rate of common Christianity. David Brainerd had done that himself in his life; he had not succumbed to just going with the flow. He wanted to live to the glory of God. He was a man of intense prayer; a man of intense yearnings to see his adopted people trained in the scriptures. David Brainerd had lived that himself and he had a desire that others live above the rate of common Christianity. I trust that you also have that desire to live above the rate of common Christianity.

The author is ordained with over thirty-five years in ministry. He is an authority on the book's subject matter having trained many converts, and himself lived above common Christianity. With keen insight into life and ministry, he has written this book to help you live above the rate of common Christianity.
This book traces the development of 'community archaeology', identifying both its advantages and disadvantages by describing how and why tensions have arisen between archaeological and community understandings of the past. The focus of this book is the conceptual disjunction between heritage and data and the problems this poses for both archaeologists and communities in communicating and engaging with each other. In order to explain the extent of the miscommunication that can occur, the authors examine the ways in which a range of community groups, including communities of expertise, define and negotiate memory and identity. Importantly, they explore the ways in which these expressions are used, or are taken up, in struggles over cultural recognition - and ultimately, the practical, ethical, political and theoretical implications this has for archaeologists engaging in community work. Finally, they argue that there are very real advantages for archaeological research, theory and practice to be gained from engaging with communities.

?Business-as-usual? has been transformed across the music industries in the post-CD age. Against widespread hype about the purported decline of the major music labels, this book provides a critique of the ways these companies have successfully adapted to digital challenges and what is at stake for music makers and for culture.

Today, recording artists are positioned as ?artist-brands? and popular music as a product to be licensed by consumer and media brands. Leslie M. Meier examines key consequences of shifting business models, marketing strategies, and the new ?common sense? in the music industries: the gatekeeping and colonization of popular music by brands.

Popular Music as Promotion is important reading for students and scholars of media and communication studies, cultural studies and sociology, and will appeal to anyone interested in new intersections of popular music, digital media and promotional culture.

When God comes into our lives, we change.

Our new identity is in Christ comes into tension with our old identity in ourselves as the Holy Spirit works in our hearts and minds. This tension arises between who we were and who God created us to be, between us and God, and between us and those around us. The Apostle Paul calls the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives sanctification.

Life in Tension reflects biblically on the Beatitudes offering analysis, prayer, and questions for discussion.

Hear the words; Walk the steps; Experience the joy!

Life in Tension reflects on Jesus' Beatitudes in the context of scripture. The Beatitudes serve as an introduction to the Sermon on the Mount and lays out Jesus' priorities in teaching his disciples. Because the sermon serves as a kind of ordination service for the Apostles, the importance of the Beatitudes for the early church, Christian spirituality, and discipleship today cannot be overstated.

Author Stephen W. Hiemstra (MDiv, PhD) is a slave of Christ, husband, father, tentmaker, writer, and speaker. He lives with Maryam, his wife of 30+ years, in Centreville, VA and they have three grown children.

What people are saying...

We live in a fallen world. It leads to life in tension, and sometimes a life full of stress. Stephen Hiemstra takes us on a needed tour of the kind of character it takes to face such a life. - Darrell L. Bock, Dallas Theological Seminary

We don't often think of our life as one lived in tension, but as believers that's exactly how we live.
Unlike many of the works on the Yugoslav wars written during and just after the crisis, Yugoslavia Unraveled delves beyond 'who did what to whom' to examine underlying issues regarding the sources of religious nationalism and inter-ethnic conflict, the territorial integrity and sovereignty of states, and the principle of self-determination and the right of secession from an existing state. This volume raises essential questions pertaining to the legality and morality of military intervention by external powers without U.N. sanction, and to nation-building by outside powers in war-devastated territories. The book also explores the nature of media propaganda in times of war. Editor Raju G. C. Thomas and the prominent contributors provide fresh views and alternative explanations for the unraveling of a sovereign independent state following the end of the Cold War and in a world without countervailing power.

Can Islam be located on a map? Is Europe the center of the Christian world? Is India a Hindu nation? While decades ago these questions were often answered in the affirmative, the truth has never been that simple. Not only are adherents of particular faiths spread across the globe, but there are many variations of a particular faith practiced side by side. This has only become more true in recent years as the pace of globalization has quickened. The essays collected here provide brief and accessible introductions to the major world religions in their global contexts. The volume begins with an introduction to the globalization of religion by Mark Juergensmeyer, and is followed by individual essays on Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and local religious societies.

The Land Is Ours tells the story of South Africa’s first black lawyers, in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In an age of aggressive colonial expansion, land dispossession and forced labour, these men believed in a constitutional system that respected individual rights and freedoms, and they used the law as an instrument against injustice. The book follows the lives, ideas and careers of Henry Sylvester Williams, Alfred Mangena, Richard Msimang, Pixley ka Isaka Seme, Ngcubu Poswayo and George Montsioa, most of whom were also members of the ANC. It analyses the legal cases they took on, explores how they reconciled the law with the political upheavals of the day, and considers how they sustained their fidelity to the law when legal victories were undermined by politics. The Land Is Ours shows how these lawyers developed the concept of a Bill of Rights, which is now an international norm. Amid current suspicion of the Constitution and its protection of individual rights, the book clearly demonstrates that, from the beginning, the struggle for freedom was based on the ideas of constitutionalism and the rule of law.

Far too many people think philosophy is an intellectual exercise that is beyond them, over their heads, or an intellectual waste of time. In Seeking the Truth of Things, Gini attempts to reestablish philosophy at the center and not the periphery of the public square by relating bits of wisdom that are both manageable yet imaginative and flavorful enough to entice and satisfy readers without ever overwhelming them.Known for his books on practical philosophy, such as The Importance of Being Lazy: In Praise of Play, Leisure, and Vacations and Why It's Hard to Be Good, Gini is a philosopher who writes for real people about things they actually care about, such as the meaning of work, moral courage, choice, sin, laughter, and leisure. In Seeking the Truth of Things, he explores his lifelong quest for wisdom. Part memoir, part introduction to key philosophical concepts, this book exposes the profound concerns that make us human in the context of real life.
